About This Adios Motherf***er (AMF) Drink Recipe

Whether it’s the quirky name or the way they look, or sometimes thanks to both, some drinks you just have to try. And this Adios Motherf***er (AMF) is one of those.

AMF is an American drink that was invented in the 1980s, when eccentric cocktail names were popular, like Sex in the Driveway or Grateful Dead.

Also known as Walk Me Down, Blue Motherf***er, Adios Mofo, or simply AMF drink, it is a bold and boozy cocktail. Its name is essentially indicative of the fact that the AMF drink is one of the most potent drinks you can make by combining five strong types of alcohol.

The AMF drink is very similar to Long Island Iced Tea. If you swap the blue curaçao and Sprite with triple sec and cola, you would have a Long Island.

But in this cocktail, vodka, gin, rum, and tequila are mixed with sweet and sour and blue curaçao, which gives the drink that signature bright blue color. It’s then topped with Sprite for a lighter and citrusy flavor. Garnish it with a slice of lemon, and you have an eye-catching cocktail.

Be careful though, because, despite the fact that AMF is a very potent cocktail, it goes down pretty easily and can knock you out with just a few drinks.

Sip slowly and enjoy it responsibly!

Ingredient Notes

  • Vodka: A good plain vodka will work well in this cocktail.
  • Rum: I’ve used white rum. For mixed rum drinks, Bacardi is typically the best choice.
  • Tequila: I like to use white tequila because it does not have an overpowering flavor and it isn’t aged, so it doesn’t modify the final taste of this drink.
  • Gin: I like to use a neutral dry gin with a smooth consistency and one that does not have a strong flavor.
  • Blue Curaçao: It’s similar to Caribbean liqueur and gives a lovely citrusy flavor and a gorgeous blue color.
  • Sweet and Sour Mix: It is an exquisitely balanced blend of lemon juice, cane sugar, and filtered water — the perfect cocktail mixer.
  • Sprite: The soda gives the drink a lighter, more citrusy flavor.
  • Garnish (Optional): I like to garnish my cocktail with a slice of lemon.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Sprite: I like to use Sprite as it gives a lighter, more citrusy flavor, but you can also use 7Up.
